[pct-l] Hwy 74 to Hwy 10

Hi all,

I'm planning a 60 mile hike from Pines-to-Palms highway through San
Jacinto to I-10, and wanted to run a a couple of things past the group.

Water: I'm looking to confirm water sources if possible. Here's what
I've got so far - water IS at Tunnel spring, Cedar spring, Taquitz
Meadow Trail, Deer springs, Black Mountain CG, and Snow Creek Rd. Water
MAY BE at Penrod canyon, down forbes saddle trail, and Apache spring.
Can anyone shed light on this? I'm working out my water plan and would
like to verify my options. Also, anyone know the trail distance between
the PCT and the cedar springs water source? Looks like about mile each
way on the map.

Kooties: I'd like to use Aqua Mira, but will take my PUR hiker if need
be. Any thoughts on water source quality?

Bugs: I don't anticipate the need for deet or a head net, but would like
to check with you all to verify. Any thoughts?

Weather: Figuring on warm-ish days, cool-ish nights. Will use my
homemade tarptent and 20 degree down bag.

Plan: day 1 - Hwy 74 to around Apache Peak (hopefully use Apache springs
as water source and walk back southbound to saddle just before the peak
to camp). Day 2 - Apache peak to Deer springs via Mt. San Jacinto peak.
Day 3 - Deer springs to Snow Creek rd. Day 4 - short hike to I-10 for
spousal pick up (may hike north to Pink Motel to have a look, then back
to the hwy). BTW, how does one "find" the pink motel?

All comments appreciated.
