[pct-l] Permits Required

Hi all,

Can someone please tell me which permits I'll need for the Oregon
section and how I may obtain them in advance? I'm hiking from Ashland
to Bridge of the Gods.

Thanks!

Maybe everyone is out hiking, where I wish I were, but we've been
getting
hit by lots of rain up here.

Hey Phoenix,

Info on ATM's out of the town guide is as follows:
Warner Springs - NO
Idyllwild, Big Bear City, Wrightwood - YES
Agua Dulce - NO
Tehachapi/Mojave - YES
Kennedy Meadows - NO

ATM's after that only at Lone Pine, Bishop (if you are even stopping at
tho=
se towns), Belden, Ashland, Cascade Locks, Snoqualmie, and Skykomish.
Soun=
ds like the $300 for emergencies may be a good plan. I'm counting on
that,=
and my credit card! In the past I have carried Traveler's Checks, but
I h=
ave been given a hard time about those before on more than one occasion.

I hope that helps.

We're just about to leave Mount Laguna, a few days behind the main group
of=

hikers. Yesterday I tried to buy a money order at the Mount Laguna
post o=
=3D
ffice, and my check card was rejected. I couldn't quite understand why,
bu=
=3D
t it seems to do with the fact that it is an ATM card that can be used
as =
=3D
like a credit card, and the post office computer only takes straight
debit =
=3D
cards. Fortunately we had enough cash to resupply well past Warner
Springs=
=3D
, but now we have no cash.

So can anyone tell me if Warner Springs has an ATM in the area? And
where =
=3D
else in the coming weeks can we hope to find ATMs?

Thanks in advance,

Chris (Phoenix, PCT 2003)

I'd recheck ATMs at Warner Springs..but I have seen ATMs
appear and dissapear in that area; they even closed the
entire Wells Fargo office in Borrego Springs a few years
ago and there is just an ATM left there..same kinda Kiosk
that was in Warner Springs. But we got cash there year or two ago..

It could have been just outside town as well don't recall
exactly, but I do know it was there as we stopped
once in those two years of hiking. We go back regularly now
in the winter to the desert as once we hiked that section
we fell in love with Borrego Springs wilderness desert.

I don't bother taking cash now becasue the store accepts
all plastic including debitcards.

Well- there is a Holiday Inn (Chateau is the name I recall)
there. I did not stay there but it looked nice and I
have never gone wrong with an HI!
