Saw a monster of a Mojave Green near Red's Meadows.  Have seen a couple in
YNP, and  one near Matterhorn Peak, but on the desert side.  In forty years
of High Sierra have never seen one above 9000'.   From Campo north I only ran
into 3 that were close enough for the pucker factor.  One when I was
barreling down Snow Creek into the desert, the second lying full length in
the grass next to the trail coming into Silverwood Lake, and the last, lying
across a switchback coming down into Cajon Pass.  I swore to keep watch for
the critters, but NEVER saw them until I was past them and they rattled.   I
think I saw fewer than most and more than only a few.  I don't carry any
electronix tho.... I prefer to listen to myself ( in my head, of course),
first talking, then chattering insanely, and finally shutting up completely
and listening to the sounds of silence.
