[pct-l] MSR white gas stoves

It depends on how much you cook each day. My very old (mid 80s, preshaker
jet model) burns up a little under an ounce of fuel in bringing a pint of
water to a boil. During my AT section hike last spring, I used a
22 oz bottle. After the first 16 days (boiling 2-3 cups per day),
I still had a third or quarter or so of the bottle left.
The newer models burn hotter (significantly) than my old one.
The international is the same as the whisperlite, but with a few different
internal parts so that you can burn various fuels common in the third
world by swapping out a few parts. A good choice if you think you
might do some international travel in the future. The dragonfly
burns pretty hot. But, it is really loud and I don't think the ability to
simmer is worth the added complexity. When things break (and they will),
you'll want the simplest thing possible to fix. Another downside of the
dragonfly is that if you shut it down, you have to wait until it is cool
before it will restart and burn well. I don't know why this happens, but
it just does when I am around. I have not used the simmerlite.
Of the four models, I would go with the regular whisperlite. My
whisperlite, though, will be staying in Indiana this summer.
