[pct-l] on the trail

Ken and I used G-4's and they handle big water carries. We carried 2 liter
soda bottled for extra water and tossed them in town when we didn't need
them anymore. The green 7-up bottles held the smelliest, least desirable
water. Ken rated the "nose" and taste of various water sources like he would
rate wines.

One note about the G-4: carry water in the side pockets or lower in the
pack. On the desert I had a full gallon, stooped over and the Velcro top
closures couldn't hold the water. The bottle fell out, hit me on the back of
the hear and the smacked the top of my foot. :-D

You two have great pack weights!!

YMMV,
Marcia

Pappy and I happily join the weenie crowd this year. We retired our Dana
Glaciers (made right here in Bozeman, MT) and opted for G4s at 16 oz each!
Without food and water, we are both right at or below 10 lbs. However, we
are
wondering if we should use the Danas over the Mojave, where our primary
weight
will be all the water (-- the logic being that the Dana packs are sturdy
enough to hold all that weight? Any comments?
