[pct-l] Bounce/Drift Box

Although I didn't use bounce boxes, I did mail packages to myself and did
mail packages out very often. If you get to a place with a real post office
which is open when you are there, no problem. However, is the post office is
closed or you are relying on UPS, then you need to enlist someone else to do
the mailing for you. That worked for us except one time - we never got our
package back.

Post office hours change. Do not trust anything in print from a prior year.
Call the post office and get the current days of week and hours. Don't
presume locals know (I remember how staff at Crater Lake Mazama Store had no
idea when the post office was open - and couldn't find anyone to call).

You also need to contend with speed: UPS is fast once the package is on the
way; Priority Mail is also fast. You are playing the odds with anything
else.

So where to send packages - all of the following have Post Offices:

Warner Springs, Big Bear City, Wrightwood, Mohave, Onyx, Independence,
Tuolumne Meadows, Lake Tahoe, Sierra City, Belden, Old Station, Burney (not
Burney falls - go into Burney), Dunsmuir, Etna, Seid Valley, Ashland, Crate
Lake, Cascade Locks, Skykomish, Stahekin. There are more if you go off
trail.

Subject: [pct-l] Bounce/Drift Box

I am trying to prepare a list of places where I can send a box of critical
equipment that has limited application, like an ice axe and cold weather
gear, and then mail it out from the same location to the next stop further
along the trail so I will have access to the gear as needed. I was shooting
for three-week intervals between points to ensure arrival before I got
there. Does anyone have a list of the places they sent similar boxes that I
could use as a starting point?
