Subject: [pct-l] Peace

I understand it is hard to keep thoughts about the current world situation
off of this list. We are all human beings living on a planet where peace is
seemingly nothing more than a far off ideal, a fleeting feeling.

The strife in the world today is felt with every breath I take. You all
have become like family to me, even though I have never met you. You are my
life line right now, and so it is natural to want to share my feelings.

I have had moments of doubt regaurding my thru-hike this year, about leaving
civilization in this time of confusion. But by being here I only add to it.
I have taken comfort in the knowledge that I am doing the best thing I can
possibly do for my fellow inhabitants of this planet. I am going where
things make sense. I am going for a walk in the woods so I can hear "my own
voice" as a good friend of mine put it. I am seeking inner peace. Without
that, I am useless. Without that, outer peace is impossible.

By battling each other with deep seeded opinions we are only adding to and
perpetuating the war. Not just the war in Iraq, but the war that we face
daily as human beings. We are bombarded with voices and opinions every day,
and left with the task of deciphering our own confusion.

I hope that we can instead embrace each other and unite as seekers of peace,
as keepers of the eternal wisdom in the eyes of us all which Greg so
beautifully expressed. So let's share our love, for the trail and for each
other, and respect that we are all on our own journey, with different views
of the road, yet we walk together.

Thanks for helping me make my way.

Jason
