 Remember watching  Colin Fletcher on a PBS Special as a kid shortly after
his " Thousand Mile Summer" book . Camera crew went out in the desert for a
week and followed his trek. Colin told camera crew, " You need to find a
water hole with living things in it". This was his safety test. If nothing
was living in a pool, water bad. Pretty straight forward.
   I knew of no one in 1977 that carried a filter. ( Or even knew that one
was!!) Most carried Halazone tabs, but after using them a few times decided
we would rather die from anything the water had to offer than suffer that
awful taste!!!!
