ron, your philosophy on backpacking fits more people. i'm not a thru hiker
and have no desire to become one. mostly weekends with friends and
occaisionaly 6 to 7 day outing, mostly in the sierras. to me lightwieght
backpacking is like taking a cold shower with just enough hot water to make
it comfortable. carrying 20# for the weekend makes it doable for me.
