First of all I would like to thank Tony for his thoughtful comments. They
are clear and to the point. A few years ago when I hiked all of Oregon I
used a tent/tarp and it worked fine unless the bugs were real bad. Now I
am not a smoker but I do carry a small pipe and it sure was a pleasure
lighting it up to fend of the bugs. I wonder if anyone else uses this kind
of "off the wall" solution for bugs. At times it was better than being all
greased up with bug spray. I have come to really like a tarp, bug head net
and my pipe. ThanX again to all you hikers, When you are so far away from
the PCT, the PCT list is a real daily pleasure. Mikel
