FWIW/IMHO - go to hood river from cascade locks, it is maybe 20 miles down
the interstate.  hood river has a safeway next to a walmart next to a postal
annex next to the LQ all of which is across the street from the laundromat
with a variery of lodging options of various prices ($25 - $100/nite) near
by.  the grocery store in cascade locks was not all that great, alas it was
a super market, but wouldn't you rather supply for the last 500 miles from a
modern supermarche with all the bells and whistles and gourmet bars such as
safeway?  this could be the difference between eating tuna from foil packets
or carrying 1 oz. cans for washington.
