How about they both stop and exchange a few pleasantries.

I have a question for everyone. I recently read an article where the author
was appalled by the bad manners of up-hill hikers not stepping aside to give
him, the down hill hiker, the right of way. Am I wrong all these 40+ years?
I thought the uphill hiker always got the right of way. I know that for
myself, when I get my "zone" going up hill I don't usually like to break it,
you know the forward momentum -inertia and all. I have looked through
numerous books and never really seen this addressed. Any thoughts,
comments?
