The main reason that I don't support tax payer money being spent is that it
usually gives the government an excuse to regulate the activity in question.
Almost all of the examples that you cite are under pressure from some group
or the other for more government control and regulations.
So, sure,Big brother's (or maybe Big Mother is more appropriate)pocket book
can come in handy at times...but there are usually strings attached..
