[pct-l] RE: Topo USA question

Hi Jeff,

I started out using Topo USA 2.0, but am using 4.0 right now. I remember h=
aving a lot of problems drawing my own routes in 2.0, and think I remember =
having to simply use the draw tool to just place a line on each map section=
to represent the trail. Also, Topo USA has a very outdated route for the =
PCT, almost to the extent that theirs is unuseable.

I have created downloadable maps for a large part of the PCT, including all=
of Section C, where you were mentioning hiking. My maps include waypoint =
information, such as water, major road crossings, and resupply points, and =
have a scaled profile on the page. Each page will cover about 12 to 15 mil=
es of trail, and are accurate as of the 2001 hiking season. The maps will =
print on standard 8.5 x 11 inch or A4 paper. I've attached the file for th=
e first map from I-10 northward as an example. You can obtain the others a=
t www.hikermaps.com, or go to my main website at www.hikertrash.com, and fo=
llow the link to the map page.

Hope this is helpful.

Tony

Subject: [pct-l] Topo USA question

Howdy listers,
I picked up a copy of Topo USA v2.0 as a close out at a local map place.
I'm just starting to play with creating routes. I'm trying to
create a hiking route which has the PCT north of I-10 as the beginning
of my route. The "query" feature allows you to ask about map features.
When I query the program about this section of the PCT, it highlights
that section of the PCT in yellow and gives the length of that section.
Is there a way to select that portion or any other portion of a trail
shown on the maps? Or do I have to follow the trail with cursor and
click on each change of direction?
Thanx in advance.
         Jeff Jones
