[pct-l] Long distance foot problems

congratulations on the thruhike!!!

I and everybody that I met on my thruhike had very tender feet. One poster
a while back said that he wished that he had video material of thruhikers
getting up in the morning. Those first steps can be excruciating. My sore
feet and knees lasted about 2-3 months after the hike.

Have you ever had frostbite? This could explain pain and circulation
problems. But this does sound like a nerve problem

I met two people on the CDT,, who had very intractable plantar fascitis.
One said that it took a "night cast"( a strap on device that keeps the foot
reflexed while you sleep) to finally get past it. Both were wearing Z-Coil
shoes. I started to talk to both of them when my eye reveted on their foot
wear. The heel is a spring with the rubber heel pad adfixed to the bottom.
Both said them were expensive but well worth the cost, and that the foot
pad can be replaced. They were not thruhikers and I do not know how much
use they were giving the shoes. I think the shoes are made in Grants , NM
and there is a website for them. More cushining and a sorbothan insole may
help in the long run, although this may not repair the initial problem.
