I agree with everyone about using tarps and netting for enjoying the
outdoors.  I lay in my net tent (Bug Hut 1) and see the nightly show of
meteor showers.  I have never understood the attraction of the traditional
tents pitched around me at a campsite.  Everyone is missing out on what they
came out there to see and be part of.  No nylon prisons for me in the
backcountry.  I guess there is some privacy, sense of security, and in a
hurricane you think you have better protection (I doubt it).

I guess what I am asking is why do people use traditional tents?  I don't
think John Muir or Norman Clyde used them or netting or tarps.  Maybe they
would have if the light weight stuff available today was available to them.
Here's a good question; What would John and Norman carry today?  Happy
