Hi Switchback:

Here's an idea, which may be fantasy 'cause I only know vaguely what a
Garcia looks like and don't actually own one. Make two crosswise cuts,
both at an equal distance from the ends. Throw away the center section.
File the cuts made in the end sections flat enough. Use epoxy or maybe
some other bonding agent to cement the two halves together.
