[pct-l] food prep

Caroline, cook the beans at home, then mash them into a chunky paste (or
puree them in whatever broth suits your dietary parameters) - then dehydrate
them. They rehydrate with just boiling water, and need no on-trail
cooking. Same with split peas & lentils. Look also in the archives for
suggestions on preparation, as well as links to suppliers of
already-dehydrated bean flake products, often available in bulk.

I have been considering trying to take some beans on my hike - my
thought though is if you soak them, it'll soften them, but I'm still
looking at a 2-3 hour cook for decent softness - so - any suggestions
here? They are filling, and definatly within my dietary parameters.
anyone do split peas or lentils or anything like that, either?
