[pct-l] Short backpacking trip
We will be going on an overnight backpacking outing on Friday May 10, to
Bear Creek (same as the hike a couple of weeks ago), about 12 miles RT. I
get off work at about 3-3:30 on Friday, should be at the trail head by
5:00 pm. It is a nice 2 hour hike to the camp site so can get set up
before dark. On Saturday we can explore Bear Creek, there is a nice trail
going down the creek and supposed to be a nice waterfalls up creek, I
haven't been up that far yet. If you want to get away from it all without
going far, come join us!

"It will be the upper Bear Creak trail which is off Hwy. 39, north of
Azusa (before you get to Crystal Lake). It is a real good work out but
not so difficult that you have to be an experienced hiker. The trail
starts with a steady sustained climb, I think it is just over 3 miles to
Smith Saddle and then it drops down into the San Gabriel Wilderness for
about a 3 mile descent to Bear Creek. We can cool our feet in the stream
for a few minutes and......" not have to rush off!
They have done a lot of trail maintenance, it is in great shape and a
beautiful trail. It is very peaceful down by the creek, an idyllic spot.
