[pct-l] ADZPCTKO

Jason,

How important of an event is the ADZPCTKO?

This is not an event of great importance relative to the the event that you
are about to be undertaking. Don't allow the attraction of this event to
cause a delay in your planning or a distraction from the details.

However, 57 (currently registered) of your 2002 cohorts will be attending,
along with several people who hiked the trail as recently as last year. You
will get the short term reflections of those who have recently thru or
section hiked as well as the long term golden reflections of us "oldtimers",
of which there will be more than a few in attendance.

You will see the strategies of those that you are about to hike with and who
have researched, strategized, planned, worried, discussed, argued, anguished
over and planned some more to come up with their special strategy.
Reflecting your strategy with theirs will benefit you and them. You will
certainly see things that will make you say, "duh, why didn't I think of
that?" and "wow, how simple and light!".

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to meet trail angels that live on
or near the trail in California. Many of these stash water in inconspicuous
places so that only "thru-hikers-in-the-know" will find them and not just
weekend hikers.

The latest reports on snow in the Sierras will be given and the grand
predictors of earliest passibility will be there to inform you.

We will entertain you in a low key, fun way.

Much of this is attainable elsewhere, however, nowhere is it all avialable in
one place on one day as it is at the ADZ. All of this tends to have a
"butterfly-killing" effect. Just ask those that have hiked the PCT in the
last three years who attended the ADZPCTKO before their hike.

Come share a campfire story with us, a tall bear tale, a laugh and maybe a
beer. I think that you find a group of people who share that a sparkle in
your eye, that quest for adventure, that quest for life and wilderness.

Best regards,

Greg "Strider" Hummel
