I resupplied there. And sent a resupply package to Olallie Lake. You can make
it work. But take lots and lots of money. Gosh darn it, now I'm all worked up
again. You know why the prices for stuff in the store is DOUBLE what you
would pay at Safeway in Klamath Falls, an hours drive away? No not because
the owner is greedy. They are literally TOLD what to charge by the NPS who
take a cut of the profit. The NPS polluted Crater Lake because they went with
the lowest bid for a septic system for the lodge that then failed and dumped
raw sewage into that sacred lake. To correct the problem took lots and lots
of money and they recouped their losses by taking it out on and from people
who spend money in the Park.
The people at the store are very hiker friendly. They have showers and
a laundromat and will assist you in getting a ride way up hill to the post
office that only takes CASH for mailing stuff, so don't rely on just a credit
card. Things may have changed since '99. Guess I lucked out walking from the
P.O. to the rim (a VERY steep walk). No one hassled me, but I didn't even
bother to try hitch hiking because of the way I looked
