[pct-l] What if ---

What if one of the casualties of 9/11 is being able to cross into Canada on
the PCT? Posts here have concentrated on getting back into the U.S. and the
fact that the PCT border crossing is unpatrolled. What if government
officials decide that this crossing is a security risk? After all, there is
no customs office there and the possibility and ease of smuggling everything
from drugs to terrorists certainly does exist. They already do illegal
entries on the PCT near Mexico. I witnessed this myself. It doesn't take much
imagination to imagine a scenario making any crossing into Canada or Mexico
without going through an official customs office a crime, and it would be
quite difficult to put a customs office at the Canadian PCT crossing since
roads and power are 7 miles away. Sure, before 9/11 there was little concern
about PCT crossings, but now who knows? Sure, no one is likely to smuggle
anything into Canada, but nefarious people could travel back and forth with
ease.
