Telescope peak is a great hike! I believe it (the mountain, not the trail)
has the third largest "slope" in the U.S. after Denali and Rainier - over
11,000 feet in one continuous drop. The view over Death Valley is well worth
viewing. Of course, Mt. San Jacinto ain't no slouch when it comes to
elevation loss. Climbing it from the east in one day (1000' to 11,500' )
would be quite the exercise! And no water to boot! Anybody out there done
that off of the PCT, say along that magnificent ridge that runs from the
summit down to the desert floor, from snow to 120 degrees?
