[pct-l] Southbounding

Jeff,

Check out the snow levels at http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/snotel/. SoBo has
a much later start. In 2000 we have a picture of us at the 2/3 point and
then saw our first of 5 SoBos for that year. A late start south is good for
hikers that have June commitments and an open late fall. We attended a local
Bay Area REI talk by SOBO through hikers. They started late because of
school, tried to hike from the border in solid snow, gave up and took a bus
to Burney Falls for a funny flip-flop. They had the Sierra to themselves in
October where it froze nightly but didn't have any serious snow storms. Have
a good hike!

PS WE were going to SoBo the CDT mid June 2002 and have been looking at
snotel daily. We looked at Glacier NP and then checked S Colorado. It seems
this is the year to go north! The good news is that we get to hike sooner!!!

Marcia
