[pct-l] Re: PCT Risks

If one sees civilization life the way John Muir did then I agree. I do not.
Backpacking is just one thing I do. My son was accepted at his first choice
university yesterday [University of Southern California]. Can I compare that
joy with the view from Island Pass? No. They are incomparible.

Now I'd really, really, really, really, really like to climb Mt. Sill. I
hear that the view is awesome. It might even be possible for me to make it
because real mountaineers call it a walkup. Muir would go and if he died so
what? But then I would miss my son's graduation.

To make it simple "Even the sick should try these so-called dangerous
passes, because for every
unfortunate they kill, they cure a thousand." --- John Muir. True, but I
don't need to be cured.

decent, delightful, even divine places to die in, compared to the
doleful chambers of civilization. Few places in the world are more
dangerous than home. Fear not, therefor, to try the mountain passes.
They will kill care, save you from deadly apathy, set you free, and
call forth every faculty into vigorous, enthusiastic action. Even the
sick should try these so-called dangerous passes, because for every
unfortunate they kill, they cure a thousand." John Muir >>

Gee, Tom, I was going to write a rebuttal to your view of mountaineering,
but
hell, why bother now!
