My experience with aluminum crampons is that they bounce right off ice. 
they may be adequate for crusty or icey snow.  But you had better try them
before you get in a tight where you really need crampons.  I doubt that you
would need crampons on the PCT if you are careful to not travel in cold
stormy weather and get up and through the passes near midday. The Snow
hardens up about 5 o'clock as the sun goes down in the sierras in June.  
But on the other hand this may be the year for crampons what with the
snowpack in the Sierras unusually high already.
