1-It suprised me also that the thin walled bottle with pump did not last as
long as the aerosol but that was my experience. With the aerosol I needed to
do only a quick dusting to drive off the critters whereas the spray took
longer to cover the desired areas.
2-I also carry a little 100% deet because occasionally only it seems to
work. However, in most cases a light aerosol dusting worked fine as long as
you kept moving [even at my slow pace].
3-I should add that mosquitoes LOVE me. My wife rarely needs anything. Your
mileage definitely varies with bug repellents.

I find it hard to believe that a spray can is more weight effective than a
thin walled plastic bottle.
The research shows that diluted deet works better on dry skin than 100%,
but 100% lasts longer
If you are hiking, how often do you apply on dry skin, vs on dripping
sweaty skin? so 100% doesn't stay 100% on the skin
