...... and then there was the group of ~1500 who set out 
in march '86 to walk from LA to DC w/timeline of 9mo.  the 
orig nonprofit broke 2wks into it; half returned home; half 
stayed n formed a new nonprofit n eventually got back on 
schedule; avg 15mi/day; some walked the entire distance, 
some took off time to have babies, outreach, adminstrate etc;
