[pct-l] Time off for long distance hikes
It's all about prioities, my man...all out them.
I am a full time student, live with my parents, work 40hrs/wk, don't have
a car, many possesions (except of course for the "new" stack of gear and
the "used to be new" stack og gear), or a girlfriend. Nor do I care to
have any of this.
I go through a two year cycle:
Year one: Go to school for both Spring and Fall sememsters, work full
time except during summer. Take off June, July, August to play. This
year I hiked the Long Trail in Vermont, another 200+ miles on the AT, and
did a nice roadtrip in New England on the coast. Save every available
dime for year two.
Year two: The hell with school. Work until it's time to go play, and
then work when you get back. in 2000 I did the AT, and next year I'll do
the PCT.
I've been going to school since 99, now mind you I take off just as much
time as I go, and will be a sophomore at the end of this term. Yippee!
It's all about priorities, my man, all about them.
I offer this quote: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by
the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the
bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your
sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain.
