'Black bears are increasingly displaying a bit of ursine bravado.... The
black bear population has doubled in the last 20 years. They now range south
almost to the Mexican border..... Last year 124 problem bears were
killed.....They can rip off a car door in 15 seconds......On July 29 Barbara
Morales was sitting at a table during a lunch break when a young bear bit
her on the arm. 'The bear was not scared of me in any way"....In Kings
Canyon Sherman Lambert was [clallenged] by a 250 pound black bear. Lambert
[attempted to scare the bear off] but the bear stood its ground without
fear....'
