Correction, make that 40 cups of volume. The Wild-Ideas is the most useful
because of a smooth inside and the fact that 8" tortillas fit nicely. [A
design consideration of the inventor] The Garcia is also easy to pack. The
Gia Bear Can has internal reinforcing ribs that make packing hard but the
Can opens from both ends. Very nice.
I have had all three and strongly prefer the Wild-Idear but it is expensive
due to the carbon fibre reinforcement construction. As for regular versus
extended, it depends on how carefully you are willing to pack your food. I
get 18 pounds of food in a standard canister and 24 pounds in an extended
canister but thats because I am a maniac. If one wants to simply toss
grocery store stuff in a canister the extended may be more appropriate.
Carrying a canister is a pain with most packs. Most people seem to strap the
canister on top of the pack or carry the canister between the pack and the
top compartment or at the very top of the main compartment.
In the past I have painted my canisters dayglo colors so that I can find it
if a bear rolls it around. However, bears don't seem to bother with
canisters anymore. Bears learn quickly.

Greetings all,
There has been a lot of talk about bear cannisters. I would like to
know what cannisters are available and their weight, dimensions,
capacity and effectiveness. Also where to buy them and an estimate of
cost. Any help will be appreciated. You can email me directly if you
want. Thanks in advance, DJ
