Hola Compadres!
I just finished my 17-day, Oregon hike and topped it
off with a visit to the PCTA Crestfest. I knew Henry
Shires and Uphill Wandering Lorraine and Paul were
going to be there, but I never would have expected
Fallingwater, Ken and Jenny Martin, and Roy Robinson
too. It was grand to see those guys. It was also a
pleasure to meet Bob the President and Mr. Jeff
Schaffer (author of our PCT Guide book), who engaged
in a CONSPICUOUS conversation with me. I also slipped
past a chance to meet the Go-Lite dude, who probably
doesn't know that it was me making fun of him along
the trail. Nevertheless, the event was packed full of
goodies, including a nice meal, silent auction (where
I scored) Bill Roberts-the Cowboy Poet (who was
awesome) and a slide show I unfortunately missed.
Anyhow, a big thanks and kudos goes out to the
Crestfesters and Lorraine, who I am shure was
responsible for much of it.
And...just to stir the punch, let it be known I rocked
54.1 miles in one day. It took me 16.5 hours of pure
rocking to finish my Ollalie Lake to Timberline Lodge
goal before dark. Let it be known when you put a
powerful body and a determined mind together,
wonderful things can happen. If you even think to
flame me with the "Why?" questions, the answer is
"because I wanted to know what my limits are (much
like why I decided to hike in the first place)." The
trail has become more to me than just a flat path to
follow. Email me off list if you care to get the
philosophy
The next day I hiked just twenty.
Rock your own hike!
-Amigo
