[pct-l] Inyo and Bears

In four days I was checked twice for my bear canister. INYO is serious.
Bears were a big problem in INYO. The Ranger rattled off multiple time when
people lost food at the camp I was overnighting. It is CLEAR that INYO
intends to enforce this regulation. The URSACK Ultra is NOT APPROVED.

I met the inventor of the wild-ideas bearicade on the trail. These
lightweight canisters [1.7 pounds, $150] are not in stores because Craig
Kent can't get the manufacturing cost below $100 [the wholesale price REI
requests. In contrast the Garcia wholesales for $40.] Craig and friends are
Hughes engineers. Craig described the many engineering hours necessary to
get the right design to minimize weight. The current design is the best he
is going to do. Craig also said that the Garcia [2.7 pounds $60-80] plastic
mold cost between $60-80K [they built 2] so don't expect and improvements
soon from Garcia. {Craig estimates that the Garcia costs $20-22 to produce.
At $20 gross margin it takes a long time to recover $80K.

The ADZPCTKO pack [2 pounds]modified to carry a canister worked great. With
a 37# weight the suspension system was good enoughfor even this 60 year old
back. The ADZPCTKO pack will not be produced for sale. Reason? I can't get
the production cost below $200. Reason? The ADZPCTKO pack must be custom
fit.

This link points at an RTF file, and there are many people whose
software will not read RTF files. So I ran a converter and then
fixed it up by hand to be an HTML file. Temporarily, you can read
my version of it at

   http://tmp.i.am/

or, slightly more permanently, at

   http://tmp.i.am/ah3_container.html

Hope this helps some out there...
