Hi Rachel,
We hiked in the Glacier Peak Wilderness several years ago, Labor Day
weekend. We went in south-west of your intended hike, off Forest Service
road 49. We entered at the North Fork of the Sauk River, trail 649. Took it
to 652 to Blue Lake, 652A to 650, through Kodak Pass, Indian Pass, and White
Pass. We took a side trip to Red Pass-incredible view. Then a hard
downhill-seems it would never end, and back down the river to the trailhead.
Didn't take any special bear precautions-food hung from a tree, but I don't
claim to be an expert at that. No problems. Much more rugged, wild country
than our Oregon Cascades. For Labor Day weekend, the traffic wasn't bad.
Some parts were busy, other times we saw no one for miles. We camped three
nights on that trip. Blue Lake is beautiful-but, hey, show me an ugly high
country lake.
Best wishes for a great trip,
Satch
