I got a new JanSport Olympic external frame backpack and added the Kelty waistbelt buckle pad.  It really works in distributing part of the pack weight around to the front.  It also keeps the waist belt riding high and not slipping down, thereby losing load carrying efficiency.  Very cool product.  Highly recommended.  It comes in several sizes.  It should work on internal frame pack front waistband buckles too.  REI carries them - at least the Denver flagship store did.  Happy trails, Switchback
