On the subject of gear ratings:
We were on a two week llama trek in Yosemite last week and met a
thru-hiking couple. I asked him how he liked his Kelty Cloud pack. It
looked brand new, and indeed it was. He had gotten a new one for the
trip, and it had a defect that became apparent after many miles. The
shoulder harness padding rolled sideways, causing a painful shoulder.
He contacted the company on a resupply stop, and Kelty shipped out a new
Cloud to his next resupply stop, and authorized free shipping of the
defective pack back to Kelty. So that's one big endorsement for Kelty
customer service to thru hikers.
