[pct-l] RE: PCT-L digest, Vol 1 #144 - 7 msgs

Do I understand message #2 correctly?,i.e. the trail this year from Kennedy
Meadows to Tuolumne is "ok" in terms of snow pack? I plan to leave Kennedy
Meadows on June 16th going North. Does anyone have a first hand report of
the snow conditions at the high passes? If so please let me know. Thanks.

your best bet for a resupply before rainey pass would be the kennedy hot
springs turnoff. 2 miles to the hot springs 5 more to the trailhead on the
white chuck river road #23. another option would be to take the milk creek
trail out to the suittle river trailhead 7.5 miles. you could return the
same way or loop back on the suittle river trail(thus skipping the climb of
vista ridge). rob

is clear of snow; 2-3 feet remaining at Sonora Pass
and the rivers and streams are high with runnoff
(esp the Stanislaus)-- but the pct trail thru the pass
is still covered with 1-2 feet of snow-- again melting
fast...

we just finished a therapy hike of about 10 miles there
for injury recovery...

Thanks Rob....

I put the same question out to my son, who put it out on the web for Seattle
Mountain Rescue and the results are now that he and some one else will pack
the resupply into us at Kennedy Hot Springs.

They will hike in the five miles from the trailhead you mention. Great son,
however he owes me big time after I managed to get into the " middle fork of
the Salmon" Idaho, this past week, with another Kayak for him after his
broke up. I managed to get in on a closed road due to snow.

Last Friday I drove over Tioga Pass and hiked down the
one-way road to Agnew Meadows. Tuolumne is snow free
and very wet. The road to Reds Meadow is mostly snow
free - should be open soon. The high trail (PCT) out
of Agnew is open and clear. Let the summer begin!

Huh? I don't know of any one way road from Tioga Pass to Agnew Meadows.
Perhaps you're thinking of Minarette Pass up by the highest ski lifts on
Mammoth Mtn? There are only trails between Tioga Pass in Yosemite and Agnew
Meadows in the Ansel Adams Wilderness.

Thanks for the report anyway.

What I meant was that I drove over Tioga Pass from
Yosemite to Mammoth, and hiked down the road from the
ski area to Agnew meadows! I was trying to report on
both of the places where I was near the PCT! Sorry for
the confusion. (I was trying to keep it
brief:))Anyway, the point is that there ain't much
snow - and it's only May.

Welll-- oh my gosh...- I was there last weekend too...

Now I know what all those bulldozers in Toulumne and Lyle
Canyon were doing with that new road to Agnews....... <g˜.... ;-)

I keep telling everyone Agnews in Santa Clara (the mental hospital)
as not moved to the Meadows...maybe I am in error :-))
