[pct-l] white gas
Jesse - We cook much as you do - hot breakfast (can't hike without my cof=
fee, though we often ate cold cereal as the oatmeal got old really fast),=
then hot dinner with soup before and hot chocolate afterwards. In other=
words, I fired up the stove often. Even so, we never used more than a =
22 oz fuel bottle on any of the trails - that includes 8 day stretches of=
the CDT and the 10 day stretch in the Sierras. (If I knew it would be a=
long stretch, I did tend to cook a bit less often, or I'd do faster cook=
ing foods.) I cook on a Whisperlight international, so that if white gas=
was hard to get, or if we could only buy it in 1 gallon cans, we could u=
se unleaded instead. Sometimes we bought the big can of white gas and le=
ft it for other hikers, sometimes we asked and someone had done the same =
for us. I have done 4 thruhikes and never had a problem getting fuel of =
some sort that worked in my whisperlight.
