[pct-l] Feeding the bears (or not)

Modern Yosemite bears prefer single malt Scotch and generally won't touch
the rotgut that most thruhikers can afford. I would advise all thruhikers to
cover your booze supply with your clothing, thus clearly signaling that you
are a thruhiker.

On the other hand ladies, if you leave out the viagara, the Yosemite bear
may BRING the Scotch. Gentlemen, sorry, Yosemite bears are not gay [ever
since the Reagan purges of the mountains] and female bears prefer
non-thruhikers who obviously have no need of viagara.

Ted's comments about bears not being much interested in dry staple
products like pasta, flour, etc. are interesting. I have always
wondered what kinds of liquids the bears would ignore. I have never
had a bear bother my gasoline stove, or gasoling fuel bottle, but I
wonder about alcohol? Any of you alcohol burners ever have a bear go
for your fuel supply? Any difference between alcohol fuel and
alcoholic beverages? I suppose vodka would look like fuel to a bear,
but how about gin or whiskey? Certainly wine would be a "food" as far
as the bear is concerned.
