[pct-l] JMT and Manning Park

Responding to two different posts -
1- Re Manning Park - they have moved the trailhead in Manning Park. It ends
up on a different road, behind the lodge. (No more sewage plant.) For a
hiker, that isn't bad as it is now closer to the lodge, I think. It was a
problem last fall for one hiker who was being met at the trailhead. His
ride was at the old trailhead, he was at the new. Oops. The lodge was nice,
and not that expensive. There are buses twice a day that go to Vancouver if
you don't want to stay there. The campgrounds nearest the lodge close early
in the fall (before we got there Sept. 22), but there were a couple that
were open a few miles away.

2. Re JMT hike - Since you plan to take 20 days for your hike, you won't
need to do 20 mile days. The trail is only 211 miles long. I did easy 12
mile days and finished in 17 days. The load out of the Muir Ranch was
heavy, but doable. In a two week hike you don't get that hungry, especially
at altitude. (I had remembered how hungry I was at the end of my thru - and
had loads of extra food I couldn't get rid of because no one else was hungry
either.)
