[pct-l] Manning Prov. Park

Hi Craig,

To answer your question about Manning, yes indeed the trail does continue
from Monument 78 at the Canada/Usa border north for 13km to Hwy 3. It is a
most embarrasing and disgusting piece of pathway for the noble end of such a
great trail as the PCT. Indeed it is the worste trail in Manning itself.
There is a signin/out log book at the Park Vistor center but the trail
starts 1 Km away at a parking lot with a big old weathered sign which
announces the trailhead with a brief explanation. You then follow along the
highway for about 1 km and past a sewage treatment plant before descending
into a warren of different trails in a bog. Should you be successful at
navigating your way through this maze you have to dodge the mountain bikers
on Windy Joe Mountain and walk through several Km. of horse dung on the
trail.

On the positive side, there are some excellent and scenic trails to hike
along in Manning and the park is a great place to take the family camping in
the summer...reserve ahead. The Lightning Lakes are a must to canoe and
Heather Trail is a easy and picturesque dayhike or backpacking pathway.

regards,

Stephen (Hiker Boy)
