[pct-l] cell phone coverage

I can't describe exactly which areas would have coverage and which
wouldn't, but in general I'd bet that less that 25% of the trail has
cell phone coverage. A cell phone isn't all that great of an emergency
device in the backcountry. And it really only works one way - no phone
is going to have enough battery life for you to leave it on all the
time, so you'll only turn it on when you need it.

On the other hand, some models are really light now. I just got a Nokia
8260 for my wife that weighs only 3.4 oz. It's very, very small. If
your family is really hung up about it, and carrying an extra 3.4 oz can
help ease their anxiety, maybe it's worth it.
