[pct-l] glissading

Funny you should ask.

In a NORMAL year the "Ray Jardine Day" is June 15th. Two weeks later is July
1.

However, the better way is to check the Tyndall Creek snow pillow and leave
Kennedy Meadows two weeks after it is clear of snow.

I would carry an axe anyway because the chute on Forrester and other places
will still be somewhat dangerous. I would get the 12-13 ounce type {Grivel
or Steubi}

You should know that by doing so you risk of not finishing [or alternatively
snow shoeing] because of an early snow in Washington. However my personal,
non-experiencal, opinion is that you will make more miles later if you don't
wear yourself and your feet out fighting snow in the sierra.

You should also know that this advice is against conventional thruhiker
wisdom.

However, it is also well known that I am UNDOUBTLY the most intelligent
person on this list... as well as the most modest, un-opinionated and soft
spoken.

Tom
