[pct-l] 2001 hiker/intro

Hi All,

I've been on this list since 1996 and was planning a 1998 hike but that
never worked out. I'm
28 and am finally in a financially-stable situation (and planning to change
careers) so I am
planning a 2001 hike. I'm planning on a mid-April starting date to allow
myself a few weeks
of finding my rhythm. If there's anyone else out there with a similar
starting plan, drop me a line.
Although I enjoy hiking alone, I'd prefer to hike the first 100 miles or so
with one or more
people.

Also... if there are other bay-area folk here and you're interested in some
weekend-warm up
hikes, lemme know. I've done most of the major East Bay trails and am
always interested in
exploring new areas.

A little about me.... 28, SWM. I work as a Web Developer in Alameda, CA but
I plan to
become a teacher upon my return from the trail (passed the CBEST last Oct).
I've hiked
many places but never for too long. My longest hike was a 5-day in the
Grand Canyon. I've
been dreaming of the PCT for 5 years though and am pretty confident of my
physical and
mental competency for the trip. I'm a little out of shape and could lose a
few pounds (although
my endurance is great!) which is why I'm planning to leave a little early
to take it easy for
the first 1-2 weeks. I do most of my hikes solo, but always enjoy the
company of others. My
family is concerned about me hiking alone (aren't mothers great?) which is
why I'd prefer to
begin with a few other people.
