I do not wear the New Balance 803's for hiking, but I did wear Thorlo's and would get abrasion type rubbing where ever the thick part was. I now wear just one pair of the Smart Wool socks and they are perfect for me. Have not had any foot problems with this sock. To day I even wear them in my Skate Skiing Boots and they worked well. cheers, Marge (the old gal)
