[pct-l] in the mood

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRIIIIBBBBBAAAAAA!!!

Howdy listers! Merry Christmas to you all!

Because of the family visitors, I've been bumped from
my room. Funny thing...I don't mind. Nowadays I
sleep on the floor in the living room(under the
christmas tree so I don't get dewy) in my trail bag.
Each morning I find myself still getting up at the
crack of dawn (despite vacation) and immediately
stuffing my bag and in the mood for a pop tart.

Damn that trail!

Anyhow, the PCT has just blessed me in several ways,
and I thought I'd share. First of all, I found a
mysterious roll of film, and developed it. To my
surprise, it was from the trail, and had some classics
on it. Just a day before, I recieved an unbelievable
CD from Fallingwater with millions of terrific
pictures on it. Thanks Ron! And finally, a day
before that Miss Swiss Miss sent me a phat stack of
photos the two of us shared. Thanks Swissy, and to
all of you who have kept in touch with me!

So...let's set aside the mushy stuff and get to
business. I've been reading the posts and seen much
of the same, but would like to provide imput to a few
topics...

First of all, to the ACL injured. Have no worries. I
too blew mine out twice, but rocked the trail with the
best of them. I believe it may have been beneficial
for my knee. If you've done your rehab, and are
careful in strengthening the muscles around the ACL
that must compensate, you should be fine. Just use
hiking poles.

And speaking of hiking poles, I now swear by them. My
inexperience once told folks they weren't needed.
Until I used them. Then, I made fun of those with
shocks in them (the $80 pairs), and used ski poles.
1700 miles and 6 months later, my elbows are still
hurting from the poles. You see, I really used my
arms and those poles as legs. I got into it on my
daily hike, pumping my upper body. And you know,
elbows aren't made for that kind of motion again and
again. Next time, I'll invest in some phat poles.

Enough of my fourteen cents worth.

Rock on folks!
