Warner Springs was called "Cupa" till 1903 when the Indian band  living 
there was relocated to make room for ranchers...

  Vignault, 42, devoted her senior project to the 1903 removal of 100 
Cupeņo Indians from their ancestral village of Cupa, now called Warner Springs.

  The Cupeņos were evicted after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled they had no 
title to their land. Their belongings were tossed onto wagons amid the 
wailing of women and cracking of whips.
