Hi Gail,
What I used on the Trail was the townguide, the databook and the guidebooks
California and Oregon/Washington, even when the maps weren`t really good and
the describing of the Trail is many times complicated and for my opinion to
personal. Section E: it is a hot, waterless, dangerous, ugly and
un-crest-like section. For me, it turned out to be a hot, but beautiful
section (I liked to dessert a lot!)
Still those are the books I would recommend to you, since there aren`t any
new on the market of whom I know
