Ho! Ho! Ho! You don't think Smartwool socks hold up as well as ragg socks? 
I used two smart wool socks on my thruhike and only one got a small hole in
it (because they got coated with thick dust and than it rained).  They were
almost the only socks I used on the hike ( I tried a pair of ultrex on the
first 500 miles as well, but they were too tight around the ankles for me)
and I am still using them.  SMARTWOOL FOREVER!
