To Cheryl -- I've gotta agree with Rich's post, although I probably would
have put it more gently.

You will never find a group of people who are more supportive of your
efforts, more encouraging, and more admiring than you will on the PCT, or on
any long-distance trails. This is a community that supports and admires
courage, which you seem to have in spades.

One of my close hiking friends is blind and uses a seeing eye dog: the issues
regarding dogs on trails in no way apply to her (except, arguably, in griz
country where it's an issue of safety), and the same would be true of you and
your horse.

In case you are new to the long-distance community, I'll fill you in -- the
issue of hoses and the damage they do is a sensitive one, mostly because of
large commercial horse trains that might have as many as 20 stock and carve
three foot deep ruts in the trail and cause erosion and pollute water
sources. If, as a handicapped individual, you insisted on the right to have
20 stock, I think legitimate issue might be taken. Impact is impact.

But that's not the case. I say : you go, girl.

Have a great ride. I'd love to come with.
